Bard College hosted a 5K run as a fundraiser for a new, local non-profit, on May 1, 2011. The “Bard 5K Run for the Red Hook Education Foundation” is a benefit run to support the Red Hook Education Foundation which is a non-profit organization that is connected to the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley. The Red Hook Education Foundation’s mission it to engage the support and energies of educators, businesses, citizens, parents, students, alumni, and civic organizations to enhance public education in Red Hook, Dutchess County, NY.
The Red Hook Education Foundation is a group of local parents,
business men/women, and academics that are interested in improving
the quality and availability of educational opportunities in the
area. The Education Foundation is also working on sponsoring
links between Bard and the local community through the Bard civic
engagement program. The foundation provides support to the
Bard Debate program in the Red Hook Middle School, Citizens
Science in the Elementary and Middle Schools, and other civic
engagement projects. This event and events like this are intended to
mobilize the students, as well as, the local community in a grass roots
effort that support our local schools in their time of need.
