As part of Bard’s Family Weekend (Oct 28-30, 2011) the Bard Debate Union hosted a public debate last night for students, parents, and Red Hook community members. The topic of the debate was “This house would recognize internet access as a human right.” Since parents, of course, have a very different take on the internet than today’s college students (i.e., they lived much of their lives without the internet), the debate sparked a series of thought provoking questions. All in all the parents seemed very impressed with our performance and with our engagement in this interesting and important topic. Congrats to Zach Israel, Saim Saeed, Caroline Stone, Lenny Simon, Shaya French, Marissa McOmber, and Stephanie Presch for a wonderful performance!
