The Bard Debate Union hosted its first weekly meeting of the year last night on Monday, September 3rd at 7:00pm! Not only did we have over 25 people in attendance and not only did our lovely returning debaters bake cookies for the meeting (Thank you, Lee!) but the entire evening was packed with intense and engaged discussion and a remarkably impressive practice debate on the topic, “This house would prioritize reducing income inequality over economic growth.” For our practice debate we had a returning debater pair up with a new debater on each of the 4 teams and absolutely everyone did an outstanding job. Each speaker filled the entire 7-minute speech time and offered compelling and articulate reasons for and against the motion. The audience offered countless pressing and perceptive questions! It looks like we are going to have some wonderful additions to our team this year and we could not be more excited! Congratulations to everyone for last night’s debate, welcome to all of our new members, and welcome back to our returning debaters. It is looking like it could be a very exciting year for Bard Debate!
And if you were not able to come to last night’s meeting but are interested in Bard Debate, come next week! Mondays, 7pm, Campus Center Red Room!
