Public Debate on Presidential War Powers at FDR Presidential Library and Museum (Jan 29, 2014)

The Bard Debate Union was honored to receive an invitation to participate in a National Public Debate Series, organized by the Cross Examination Debate Association and the Miller Center of the University of Virginia, on the topic of Presidential War Powers. The debate was scheduled for January 29, 2014 at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum and featured debaters from Bard College, West Point, Cornell, St. John’s, and Binghamton. We were represented by our very own first year debaters, Jackie Merrill and Eva-Marie Quinones, and were assigned to be the first affirmative team (the opening speakers of the debate). We were pleased to see that the debate attracted over 50 audience members, mostly community members from the Hudson Valley, and that a lively discussion ensued after the debate. Jackie and Eva-Marie did a phenomenal job setting up the debate for the affirmative team and speaking with poise and grace. Excellent work, Jackie and Eva-Marie. Way to make the Bard Debate Union proud!
